1788-L's sinister new project feels less like an EP and more like an urgent transmission from the ambitious fringes of sound design.
With NU TYPE vol. 1, the producer has signed his first release to Rezz's HypnoVizion label. And not only does it go further, it destroys it with a barrage of seismic basslines and genre-defying song structures.
The project's opening salvo, “Wartype” (featuring Quackson), sets the tone with thunderous, cinematic impacts that evolve into a frenzy of horn growls. Like a war machine come to life, the track explodes with spitting hi-hats and a screeching bassline that feels as relentless as a storm.
On “Wasp.exe,” a cascade of slick synths dances over a harsh trap beat before the track takes a surprising turn into drum & bass. Marked by an ankle-busting change of pace, the track feels like a controlled free fall combined with the precise programming of a finely tuned machine.
On “Nanoblade,” incendiary bass growls and sharp synth hits dominate 1788-L's soundscapes in an exploration of drum & bass with the kind of relentless energy that feels tailor-made for the dancefloor. The track's intensity peaks at moments when growling bass lines clash with rapid drum programming, each sonic element locked in a tense struggle.
The EP's closing track, “Prismtech,” is an offering that feels like a dark, mechanical ballet. Its industrial textures swirl into the mix, pushing 1788-L's creative boundaries in an outro that sums up the EP's theme: uncompromising innovation.
