50 Cent is a connoisseur of the art of war. With a litany of '50s controversies throughout his illustrious career, the G-Unit mogul knows how to shrewdly navigate the fray and has pretty much seen it all in hip-hop.
As part of it The Hollywood Reporter Cover posted on Wednesday (July 31), Fiddy cleared the dust up on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud, which he doesn't consider a loss to the 6 God.
“This is hip-hop. I think it's competitive to a degree, obviously. Even Drake, his position, his attitude and his choices, those are 50 Cent's choices,” he began. “Good, everyone should take it then.” When it becomes Drake vs. Kendrick, it's because it's the only thing you can counter Drake's success.”
When an artist has a career as long and dominant as Drake's, 50 believes other rappers are waiting to see him fall from the top so they can have a shot at the throne. The Queens legend thinks it's gotten to the point where people are picking holes in Drake's art that really aren't there.
“Look, our culture loves to see you step up because it's validation that they can step up,” he added. “But when you stay up — 'I want this forever, man' — they're like, 'Well, dammit. When are you coming down; If you don't go down, I won't have a chance to go up.” And then there are these clouds that come over you, and that cloud is doubt, a shadow of doubt that doesn't come from material or from your work ethic.”
The “In Da Club” rapper continued, “It's doubt from the artist community, where they're like, 'I don't know, his new s–t is cool, but it's not his first s–t.' They do that to you, and Drake is just experiencing what you're experiencing as a reaction from the success, from the consistency he's been given over and over again. I see no loss for Drake. People who bought Drake stuff are going to buy Drake stuff when his next song comes out.”
While 50 is confident that Drake will recover, due to his own antics in battle, his enemies have not met the same fate. “Now, what I'm doing is ruining your entire career,” he stated seriously.
Kendrick and Drake's back-and-forth ended in early May, and the fan consensus is that Lamar was the winner, with Advertising sign agreed. K. Dot's “Not Like Us” is still simmering and holding strong on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 3 as of August 3.
50 and Drake were linked earlier in July, and the Power The creator teased a collaboration on the TV side from the duo. She shared a photo of the two together on Instagram and wrote: “Brainstorming last night me and @champagnepapi are going to take the [camera emoji] rolling the biggest hit on your TV.”
