Retro Jordan sneakers may struggle to make it onto the secondary market these days, but actual game-worn Jordan sneakers still fetch some pretty big bucks on the auction block.
Nice kicks reports that a collection of Air Jordan sneakers worn by His Airness during his historic championship run in the 1990s fetched a pretty penny. The “Dynasty Collection,” which featured six different pairs of Air Jordan sneakers (VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII, and XIV) worn by Michael Jordan during his six NBA championships, sold for $8 million at a global auction that held by Sotheby's. Keep in mind these were single sneakers. They weren't even paired, but they were game worn and autographed by the greatest of all time.

This remarkable achievement places the Dynasty Collection as the second most valuable Michael Jordan memorabilia ever auctioned, trailing only Jordan's iconic 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey from the famous 'Last Dance' season. The jersey fetched a staggering $10.1 million at a Sotheby's auction in September 2022, still holding the world record for game-worn sports memorabilia. In addition, Sotheby's holds the record for the highest-selling pair of sneakers, with Michael Jordan's 1998 Finals NBA Game 2 Air Jordan 13s from “The Last Dance” season, which earned $2.2 million in April 2023;
“Today's record price is a testament to the GOAT. The Dynasty Collection arguably ranks among the most important sports memorabilia collections in history. As a reminder of Michael Jordan's lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his acknowledged legendary status, his importance is further validated by this monumental result.”
Of course, the identity of the buyer is being withheld as Sotheby's does not want to target anyone at this point. But whoever dropped $8 million to own a piece of sports history must have pockets as deep as Jay-Z because it's day!
