With clubland obligations in the rearview mirror, VASSY sets out on a cathartic road of self-discovery on his ambitious new album, Supreme.
Once a weapon of festive euphoria, VASSY's voice now reveals its depth and nuances. She sometimes whispers confessions and other times unleashes his inner lions, but constantly warbles with the same unfiltered vulnerability behind the music of her illustrious career.
Gone are the familiar anthem beats, replaced by a steaming tapestry of genres: tender ballads that ache, slow-burning reggaeton that simmers, and introspective pop that brims with soul. Meanwhile, the album's lyricism explores the elusive pursuit of happiness in 2024, a time when disillusionment seems inescapable with every dystopian headline.
Creative strangling has become a liability for many singer-songwriters in the dance music space, but VASSY's frustration has fueled the fire. Supreme It cements her not just as a voice for hire, but as a formidable artist who comes into her own through sonic risk-taking and raw self-expression.
“I missed the freedom in the studio to be more versatile and create songs without pressure to fit a certain format… it's fun to express my voice through various genres and styles of music,” VASSY said in a press release. “I find it exhilarating. I just wanted to go back to my roots to remind myself where I started musically and how that translated to where I am now in my career.”
