Turns out Ozzy Osbourne wasn't the only artist who refused to accept a sample for Kanye West's new album. The rapper also reportedly requested and was denied permission to include Donna Summer's classic record “I Feel Love” on his just-released collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign. Vultures pt. 1. But, just as he did with Ozzy, West apparently ignored the wishes of Summer's estate and went ahead and performed the song without his permission.
A version of “I Feel Love” is interpolated into the vultures track “GOOD (NOT DIE)”. Summer's estate isn't sure if West had someone re-sing the song or if she used artificial intelligence technology, but they are clear about one thing: It's “copyright infringement.”
“Kanye West… asked for permission to use the song 'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer, but was denied,” the estate wrote in a statement posted to Instagram. “He changed the lyrics, someone re-sang it or used AI, but it's I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!”
Summer's estate tagged Sharon Osbourne in their post; Ozzy's wife and manager has already threatened legal action against West for the unauthorized use of a performance of Ozzy singing “Iron Man.” Following Osbourne's threats, West reportedly removed the Ozzy sample from the album.
