Hauser comes to talk to Kyle Meredith about his new album. Classic II, a sequel to his 2020 project in which the 2Cellos member reinterpreted a carefully selected set of classic songs. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The musician explains the concept of the new album, how it connects to the previous installment and the process of selecting which compositions would make the cut. He also explains why he believes classical music has been able to endure in today's musical landscape, and why it is particularly important that it does so.
“All of those composers were putting their heart and soul into [the compositions], and you can still feel this,” he says. “They were different times, you know? There was love, there was romance; now it's all just fast forward, skip forward, trash music. Everything is fast, fast, fast; next, next, next. At that time everything had a meaning.”
Still, the world-renowned cellist has a soft spot for certain pop and rock artists. He has collaborated with several rock icons, such as U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and enjoys the ways in which different schools of music intersect.
