Jack Antonoff has declared that anyone who questions Taylor Swift’s songwriting skills is “toast” to him.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the record producer, 39, reflected on speaking out against artists who have criticised the All Too Well hitmaker’s talents in the past, including Blur frontman Damon Albarn and Kanye West.
“I’m a little b**ch sometimes,” he told the publication. “But you come after my friend Taylor, you’re toast to me.”
In January 2022, Damon suggested that Taylor didn’t write her own songs during an interview with The Times. Jack then hit back at the English musician in a post on X/Twitter.
“i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb,” he wrote at the time.
Damon later apologised, saying his comments had been “reduced to clickbait”.
Jack has also previously criticised Kanye, who has been feuding with Taylor ever since he interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
During the interview with the L.A. Times, the record producer said that questioning Taylor’s songwriting skills “is like challenging someone’s faith in God,” adding, “You just don’t go there.”
The Cruel Summer singer is preparing to release her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, on which Jack is a producer. The album is due for release on 19 April.
