With Godzilla’s profile back on the rise, the kaiju legend was recently appointed as a Tokyo police chief for a day — all in the name of traffic safety.
As covered on TXN News in Japan and Australia’s 7 News, a Tokyo police station “hired” Godzilla at a press conference and presented him with a sash before he marched the streets with other cops at his side. Watch footage of Godzilla on patrol below.
“Godzilla’s message to the city is one of road safety,” 7 News reported. “The monster is one of several Japanese characters chosen to raise public awareness about staying safe in Tokyo’s busy traffic.”
Last year, Godzilla starred in Godzilla Minus One, one of the best films of 2023. and was featured in the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Next, he will team up with a former foe in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, one of our most anticipated films. Godzilla x Kong opens in US theaters on March 29th.
