The last superstar of the genre spun and crossed the floor of the Moody Center in Austin
Lainey Wilson delivered a fun and comfortable rendition of her recent single “Country's Cool Again” at the 2024 CMT Awards this Sunday.
Dressed in fringed pants and a matching vest, and with her hair in long braids under her cowboy hat, Wilson twirled and twirled through the audience, exuding the charisma that helped her win Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards 2023. It was a highly entertaining performance, with elements of the country-funk that defined her last album, Bell Bottom Country.
Along with the performance, Wilson earned three CMT Awards nominations this year, including Female Video of the Year for “Watermelon Moonshine” and Collaborative Video of the Year for “More Than Friends” with Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. “Watermelon Moonshine” was also nominated for video of the year and made it through two rounds of fan voting to be among the three finalists for the grand prize.
Wilson released “Country's Cool Again” in February shortly after Bell Bottom Country won Best Country album at the Grammys. He wrote the song with frequent collaborators Trannie Anderson and Dallas Wilson, and band leader guitarist Aslan Freeman.
After the CMT Awards, Wilson will make a quick stop in Florence, Arizona for a performance before heading overseas to play a series of shows in Europe and the UK. headliners and festival dates across North America, with dates scheduled through November. On November 16, she'll close out her run with a homecoming show in Monroe, Louisiana (she technically grew up in the small town of Baskin, about 30 minutes away).
