Once and for all time, Dave Grohl hit snooze instead of joining boygenius in the studio. Phoebe Bridgers (and her bandmates) recently talk to NME and revealed that the Foo Fighters frontman and the trio had a “missed connection” when they did The Record.
“There was this missing link where Dave was actually going to come into the studio and play [the record]Bridgers said in the report. “Then he fell asleep or whatever, and we didn't meet after all.”
In the interview, Bridgers reflected on her and bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus performing “Satanist” alongside Grohl during their show at the Hollywood Bowl on Halloween.
“It was really a perfect moment to have him play on this song because we knew we wanted the drums to be crazy on it,” he said. During the show, Grohl got into the Halloween spirit by wearing skull makeup. The “boys” had coordinating Father, Son and Holy Spirit outfits.
During the interview, Bridgers also shared that she and Grohl met backstage at a Billie Eilish concert, calling him the “coolest guy.”
“I'm texting the boys, saying, 'I met Dave Grohl and he's beyond any expectation of what a rock star can be like in the world,'” Bridgers said. “I think we, as a group, are looking for that a lot — like, who's living their life the way we want to age and live our lives?”
“It's such a game. I just want to stay in the game as it is,” Dakus added.
Boygenius have received critical acclaim for their LP The Recordeven reaching No. 2 Rolling rocklist of the 100 best albums of 2023. “Whether against a folky, grungy, or Simon and Garfunkel-y backdrop, each song maintains an intimacy that makes you feel included — and that's the whole point, after all,” he says in an album review.
