“When I look at the memories of that time – hazy mornings in the van, Ian's wild smile on a floodlit stage – I can't remember my own perspective. Mostly I see Jess's pictures,” said Modern Baseball singer-guitarist Jake Ewald. “I'm grateful not only for those moments that were made permanent, but also for what Jess taught me as an artist. To walk quietly, thoughtfully, so that the light can be seen. Some people used to call Jess “the unzip”. On the road he had the uncanny ability to capture us at our most joyful and serious, but also at our most necessary, our most painful. While everyone in the room was staring at us, Jess saw us. For that, thank you, Jess.”
