About a year ago, it was reported that Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins had been brutally stabbed in prison. Now, details of the incident have emerged, revealing that the convicted paedophile was stabbed with a sharpened toilet brush over a drugs debt.
Watkins is currently serving a 29-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to heinous crimes involving multiple counts of having sex with minors, including attempted sexual assault of an infant.
The original incident report from August 2023 mentioned that Watkins was taken hostage by three other inmates at HMP Wakefield prison and beaten and stabbed, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Now, according to an account in the new book Inside Wakefield Prison: Life behind bars at Monster Mansion by Jonathan Levi and Emma French, as reported by MirrorIt has been revealed that Watkins was stabbed over a £900 ($1,150) drugs debt. The authors also found that Watkins has “spent thousands of dollars on protection” while in prison as he is despised by his fellow inmates.
A passage from the book reads: “The recent stabbing was a reminder that he must pay up. He took from a prisoner a quantity of spices with a prison value of £150. As it was Watkins, he was told he owed £900. He was drugged and refused to pay up; so he was stabbed in the side with a sharpened toilet brush.”
Another prisoner told the authors: “Many people hate him, but because HMP W is a mixed prison, meaning there are vice presidents and high-level gangsters, drug importers and organised crime, they simply take money from him for his security.”
Watkins has so far served more than 10 years of his prison sentence and is eligible for parole in 2031, but incidents such as hiding a phone in his anus in 2019 have added more time to his sentence.
Lostprophets became known for their number one alternative rock single, “Last Train Home.” The band disbanded following Watkins’ arrest and conviction, and the remaining members formed the band No Devotion with Thursday singer Geoff Rickly.
