In an exciting fusion of modern dance and pop-punk nostalgia, Steve Aoki and Yellowcard have joined forces to celebrate an unforgettable milestone.
Aoki has taken on the ambitious task of putting a new spin on 2003's “Ocean Avenue,” just in time for the song's 20th anniversary. The commercial success of Yellowcard's classic speaks volumes about its lasting impact. Certified Double Platinum in the US and achieving widespread recognition around the world, the song catapulted the band to new heights in the music industry.
The collaborative remix showcases Aoki's signature style and energy while paying homage to the enduring appeal of the original. The song builds to stadium-filling applause amidst the track's sing-along style vocals. The first act is punctuated by future radiant bass synths before Aoki unexpectedly shifts gears on the second release, introducing a cadence of heavy dance-style kicks.
This isn't Aoki's first foray into the realm of pop-punk. He previously worked with artists such as Blink-182 and Machine Gun Kelly, bringing his tried and true electro-punk fusion to their respective sounds, among many others.
His collaboration with Yellowcard came about after a conversation with the band's frontman, Ryan Key, who expressed his admiration for the producer's recent alternative collaborations featured on HiROQUEST: Genesis.
“When Ryan initially talked about this possible collaboration, I was very excited, especially when I found out how much he loves electronic music,” Aoki said. “We combined our different musical styles to create a perfect fusion of alternative rock and electronica for this song. Honoring the 20th anniversary of 'Ocean Avenue' by mixing these sounds was an incredible experience.”
