Bandcamp has revealed that it will take place Three more Fridays on Bandcamp in 2024, during which the music platform will waive its revenue share for 24 hours and give 100% of sales directly to artists and labels. The first of the announced Bandcamp Fridays is today (September 6), with the next two to follow on October 4 and December 6.
Bandcamp Fridays began in March 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and has put over $120 million of music and merch purchases directly into the pockets of artists and labels. It has also hosted charity compilations like Noise for Now. Good music to ensure safe access to abortion for allwhich raised over $230,000 during its 24-hour period.
“Bandcamp provided us with the ideal platform to maximize the impact of our fundraiser,” Noise for Now CEO Amellia Bauer said in a statement. “The charity compilation, which was released for just 24 hours on a Bandcamp Friday in 2022, Good music to ensure safe access to abortion [to] All We were able to raise $231,000, all without paying any platform fees. We are grateful to Bandcamp for being the most artist-friendly platform out there.”
After pausing Bandcamp Fridays at the end of 2021, the platform has resumed the initiative in 2022. There have been several this year, the most recent on May 3.
In September 2023, Bandcamp was acquired by music licensing platform and marketplace company Songtradr from its former owner Epic Games.
