Diving into his unique world of glitchy, glittery electronica, Ninajirachi has released a new album, EDM girl.
The virtuoso producer, one EDM.comThe best artists of 2022 have experienced a dizzying rise through the ranks of electronic music. Last year's dazzling success 4×4 PE fanned the flames of his rise, but EDM girl pour gasoline.
“There's girls and EDM and there's girl EDM… Cat ears, furry paws, angel music, headphones on, world off, sci-fi fantasy, costume fair cosplay, windows down, hands in the air, Nintendo 3DS on the beach until the sun goes down,” says Ninajirachi. EDM.com“Car seat wake-up calls, blue energy drink, kandi bracelet, producer girls, computer girls, cyborg girls, all roads lead to plur… The next step in evolution and a window to the soul.”
She kicks things off EDM girl With “Angel Music,” we’re immediately enveloped by the album’s neon-drenched production. The song, as bright in sound as the technicolor anime that inspired Ninajirachi, urgently reminds us that “girls like this come straight from heaven.”
This fantastical hyperpop journey becomes more visceral with supersonic beats that saturate the album with Ninajirachi’s unique quirkiness. “Hand on my heart” and “Wayside” are prime examples, pulsating with the glitchy sounds of chiptune. Meanwhile, tracks like “1×1” and “Ninacamina” have a darker, denser vibe and explore more melancholic sounds.
In a strategic and skillful move, “Undo U” appears twice in EDM girl: once in its original, quirky, resonant version, and once in four-on-the-floor format. The remixed “4×4” version conveys the same wintry message, “I know something that could undo you,” but the words are hidden in a frenetic, hyperactive rhythm.
Closing out the album, the title track begins with a fast-paced cadence, with kick drums cutting through effervescent, digitized harmonies. Yet behind its rousing production lies a resounding message of strength and resilience through soft vocals. The drop then detonates with distorted synths and a bassline that refuses to budge, beautifully echoing the album’s overriding spirit of self-discovery.
