Hearts race and break on “Fall Apart,” the new collaboration between RayRay and Softest Hard, out now on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records.
True to form, the two artists have created a hyperactive house beat that refuses to let up. But this time, its energy contradicts its emotional core, functioning as a relentless metronome that measures the moments of decay of a love.
RayRay and Softest Hard’s vocals oscillate between ecstasy and agony through bittersweet lyrics that capture the electric thrill of the moment of passion and the static aftermath of its dissolution. The cloying highs of their joyful production give way to the acrid taste of that loss, like a honey-dipped dessert that, beneath its sweetness, hides a deep sadness.
RayRay says the song is meant to “show a different side” of both producers, who are known for pushing the beat to the limit.
“I've known Softest Hard for quite some time and we finally got the chance to collaborate on a song together,” the Taiwanese dance music star explains. “When creating this song, I was inspired to combine inspiring melodies and rhythms to create a song about heartbreak, something I feel I'm pretty good at.”
