Guitarist Billy Morrison's (Billy Idol, The Cult) new solo album is packed with big-name guests, and now he's cast Hollywood actor Joe Manganiello in the music video for “It's Come to This.”
The cinematic clip shows Morrison cruising through the desert in a bright blue Shelby Mustang. There's a loose narrative here, so spoilers ahead: Morrison stops to dig up a mysterious bag before stopping at a shack. Manganiello (True Blood, magic mike) is sitting on the porch playing the guitar and showing off his typically imposing figure.
As Billy approaches, he pulls out a box from the aforementioned bag. Manganiello takes a look inside and is immediately blinded by a bright light. As he closes the box, Morrison flashes a wry smile and heads back to his Mustang, leaving Manganiello with the delivery. The ending definitely attracts “What is in the box?” card of Sevenwhile the cinematography evokes the highway landscapes of Vanishing Point and Mad Max.
“So, in the spirit of how this whole album came about, I wanted Joe to get a sense of what was behind his character,” Morrison said in a press release. “I knew I wanted to interact with some strange desert dweller of unknown origin. He came up with the idea that he is a soul collector. And that I was making a deal with him to give him a particular soul in exchange for the return of mine! So that's the box I dug up before going to their strange hut in the desert! Joe just cuts an imposing and terrifying figure in the movie, so he was the first and only choice to do that cameo!
As for the song, “It's Come to This” is a riff-heavy rocker written by Morrison and Erik Eldenius. It is the third single from the first's new album. The Morrison project and follows Ozzy Osbourne's collaboration with “Crack Cocaine.” In other news, Morrison and Ozzy have also teamed up for a new web show, The Asylum Chroniclesdiscussing various topics such as “aliens, drugs, conspiracies and rock and roll.”
