The change of season from summer to autumn marks an exciting time for the electronic dance music community ahead of the annual return of ADE. The iconic Amsterdam Dance Event attracts artists, fans and industry professionals from around the world as it takes over the city with hundreds of events.
Now, organisers have unveiled a series of kick-off parties to kick off this year's summit, which is scheduled to run from 16 to 20 October. The first will take place at one of Amsterdam's most iconic venues, the Van Gogh Museum, where a performance by Dutch singer-songwriter Eefje de Visser will take place.
The upcoming event takes a bold approach, combining the new with the old through technology, art and classical music. Audio-visual creative Nick Verstand and Cello Octet Amsterdam have teamed up to design an innovative show, “COCON II”, created especially for ADE, in which musicians interact with eight robotic arms to create light shapes. This unique event will take place in the Door Open Space warehouse.
ADE’s upcoming opening party will fuse jazz and techno to offer a genre-bending experience at Bimhuis. Greetje Bijma, a renowned free jazz singer, will collaborate with electronic artist Oceanic to perform a daring set. Then, London-based producer LUXE will play a live show that fuses electronic and classical music, showcasing a unique interplay between these disparate genres.
Finally, Amsterdam’s Melkweg will host a tribute to one of the world’s most influential hip-hop producers, the late J Dilla. The Metropole Orkest and composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson will interpret Dilla’s works from a new perspective to celebrate his 50-year legacy.
In other ADE news, EDM.com Another edition of our free networking event, “Insider Access,” will take place on October 17. The conference introduced its first group of participants last month, with Four Tet, Peggy Gou, Jamie Jones and many more taking part.
