Alec Meza has delivered an album that captivates and elevates in equal parts. Ah! Real lovers! is packed with substance and style and takes you on an intriguing journey full of twists and turns.
From the melodic acoustic introduction of “Ah!” Aside from the searing indie punk joy of “Let's See a Fight!”, you're never sure where this album will drag you next, and that's what I love about it. Alec Meza is an artist brimming with diverse and eclectic ideas and presents each song with the utmost conviction and enthusiasm.
That energy is perfectly bottled in the outrageously catchy “Paperboy!” and it's also evident in the album's best song, in my opinion, the menacing, groove-laden “Bite My Tongue!” – You may have already realized that Alec likes exclamation points (!), but the songs adapt to that signal of intent and the obsession with punctuation offers a well-aimed clue to the uncompromising delivery of the seven runways in parade.
Closing the album is another surprise in the form of a beautiful jazz and blues instrumental that moves effortlessly and provides a relaxed summer soundtrack, perfect for the next time you're swinging in a hammock on a sun-drenched island.
Ah! Real lovers! It is an album that really highlights the personality and individuality of the artist and allows us to enter the fun and complete world of Alec Meza. This is a really great album!
