For years, Navalny fought corruption in a nation filled with it
Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader and fierce critic of Vladimir Putin, has died in prison, Russian authorities announced Friday. He was 47.
Russia's prison service said Navalny felt unwell after taking a walk and lost consciousness. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison on charges related to extremism. “Facility medical staff arrived immediately and an ambulance brigade was called,” the prison service said in a statement. “All the necessary resuscitation measures were taken, which did not lead to positive results. The ambulance doctors confirmed the death of the condemned man.”
