Bob's Burgers actor Jay Johnston is expected to plead guilty on July 8.
Actor Jay Johnston cannot point to the method acting as justification for his participation in the Capitol riot on January 6, so he will plead guilty. NBC News' Ryan Reilly reported Monday that the former Bob's Burgers The cast member, who was charged with felony obstruction of officers during the civil disturbance, unlawful entry into a restricted building or area and obstructing passage through the Capitol, will plead guilty on July 8.
Riley also points out that Jan. 6 wasn't Johnston's first time in the limelight. But the first time was fantastic. In 2004, Johnston played a small role in the blockbuster film anchorman, as part of the fictional eyewitness team that challenges Ron Burgundy's KVWN Channel 4 news team to a road race.
In March 2021, the two FBI posted an image on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption, “The #FBI is still seeking information on people involved in the violence at the US Capitol on January 6th. If you know this person […] refer to photo 247 on your tip.”
The photos were later confirmed to be Johnston, who was arrested in Los Angeles in June last year.
Principles claimed that at the Capitol, Johnston had “pushed against police and assisted other rioters near an entrance to the US Capitol known as 'the tunnel' and had 'helped other rioters surrender US Capitol Police shields' that they had discredit by law by attempting to prevent their entry into the building. Johnston was later seen holding such a shield in what the FBI called a “group attack on officers defending” an entrance to the Capitol.
Johnston was fired from his voice role as the extremely gruff supporting character Jimmy Pesto Bob's Burgers in December 2021. It's safe to say that his portrayal of Law Enforcement on camera on January 6 will likely be his last major role in an otherwise memorable career.
