Geologist & DS – the new duo of Animal Collective multi-instrumentalist Brian “Geologist” Weitz and White Magic and Highlife musician Doug Shaw – have announced a collaborative album: A Shaw deal released January 31 via Drag the city. The first preview of the duo's upcoming record is “Route 9 Falls,” which is also accompanied by a trippy music video by Danny Perez in which the two perform the track. Find it below.
A Shaw deal started as a birthday present from The Geologist for his longtime friend Doug Shaw, who was posting videos of his improvised guitar playing on Instagram. The geologist took the audio of the sessions and ran it through the articulated system to show his friend. “I didn't set out to make a Geologist record, or even a record that anyone but Doug would listen to,” the Animal Collective musician explained in a statement. “I didn't add new sounds beyond what was there, and just fed the raw materials through myself as a possible channel. That way, I could say, “Happy birthday. You made a record, you just didn't know it.”
