Anitta has been talking about her upcoming funk album for weeks — and it finally has a date.
On Thursday night, the Brazilian star announced that her album will be released Fear Generation on April 26, which will feature the Botlok-produced song “Double Team” featuring Brray and Bad Gyal.
“Funk Generation it's an album where I celebrate my roots. There I express the power of Rio funk in each track its unique, danceable and sensual rhythms,” he said in a press release. “It's a rhythm that was born in the favelas, where I grew up, and it exudes resistance and art in every community.”
“I am proud to work on a project about a genre that has been unfairly stigmatized in Brazil, but is slowly gaining recognition worldwide,” she added. “On the album, I bring important collaborations that helped me tell this story. I have been involved in every step of the production and visual direction and achieved the result I aimed for.”
On the track, Anitta repeats the phrase “Soy bien puta,” or “I'm such a whore” in English over an electronic-funk-fusion beat. Experimentation with sound is intentional: the singer opened up Rolling rock for the “artsy-alternative” vibes he wanted on the LP.
“It's not mainstream Latin because it's funk. It is not in the mainstream of the English world,” he said. “When you're just trying to beat that person, beat that chart, beat that number, you don't have a purpose… And for me, it's so much more. I want to open doors for my people.”
“Let's just live life appreciating everything, not thinking, 'How am I going to get something out of this?' “, he added at the time. “Just doing things because you want to — that's the message I'm going to send with this album.”
The new track follows Anitta's recent collaborations. He linked up with Justin Quiles on “Faldas y Gistros” and Bad Gyal on “Bota Niña”. He also dropped “Mil Vezes” with Melody in January.
