Finally, it's Apple's turn to show off its new flagship smartphones.
Today, during the Apple event, the company created by Steve Jobs, currently led by Tim Cook, unveiled several new devices that will take full advantage of Apple's chipset and artificial intelligence, also known as Apple Intelligence.
Let's get into all the announcements below.
Apple Event Reveals iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have been “designed from the ground up” to work with Apple Intelligence, the company's take on machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The phone's casing is made from aerospace-grade aluminum and features Ceramic Shield, which Apple claims is “50 percent tougher than the first-generation version.”
The return of the iPhone 16 is the action button first introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro. This year, it's customizable and can be used to record a voice memo or translate a phrase.
A new camera control button on the right side of the device instantly opens the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro camera, making it easy for users to take photos and use the “Optical Intelligence” feature.
Users can access information about objects they photograph, such as concert flyers, dogs, bicycles, or any other object.
The camera control button also has a haptic click with haptic feedback and can differentiate between a full click and a lighter press.
The most important feature is the camera. The iPhone 16 has a 48-megapixel main camera and an ultra-wide autofocus camera that Apple says will give users the feeling of using a smartphone with four cameras.
Here's a quick rundown of the specs:
- CPU A18
- 5-core GPU that's up to 40 percent faster than iPhone 15.
- Screen with 6.1″ or 6.7″ for the iPhone 16 Plus model.
- 2000 nits in a sunny environment, down to 1 nit in the dark.
- 48 megapixel main camera. It can merge a 48MP and 12MP photo into a 24MP image.
- Support for AAA games like Resident Evil 7 and Assassin's Creed: Mirage with ray tracing support.
- Much improved battery life.
The iPhone 16 will be available in ultramarine, teal, pink, white and black variants. The base model costs $799 and the 128GB iPhone 16 Plus costs $899.
Apple iPhone 16 Pro
The most premium option, the iPhone 16 Pro, returns, with some features missing from the original iPhone 16. The iPhone 16 comes in black, white, desert and titanium gray finishes, with a 6.3″ screen for the base model and a display 6.9″ for the larger version.
Apple boasts that these phones will offer users the biggest screen ever with the iPhone 16 Pro.
The camera system features a 5x telephoto lens with a 120MM focal length on both the Pro and Pro Max models, as well as the new 48MP ultra-wide camera, which features a quad-pixel sensor and autofocus.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will also have the new customizable Action and Camera Control buttons, allowing users to switch between lenses on the fly.
Video recording will also see updates such as slow-motion capture and 4K 120 capture in full HDR with frame-by-frame color grading and post-recording editing features.
Here's a quick rundown of the iPhone 16 Pro & Pro Max specs:
- CPU A18 Pro
- 6-core GPU that runs up to 20 percent faster than the A17 Pro also features 20 percent less power consumption.
- Voice Memos is getting an update that allows users to place a track over an existing recording. Now you can also record your voice over a previously recorded guitar track.
- Spatial sound recording capabilities that work with your own cinema setup.
The iPhone 16 Pro will be available for $999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available for $1199.
All the new iPhone 16 series models are available for pre-order on Friday and will be available from September 20.
