Ariana Grande‘s has made her diagnosis of Lady Gaga‘s new single “Disease.”
On Friday (Oct. 25), the Joker 2 star made her long-awaited pop music comeback with the release of her upcoming seventh album’s lead single, a dark dance track that finds Gaga singing, “I could play the doctor, I can cure your disease/ If you were a sinner, I could make you believe.”
When the “Stupid Love” musician posted about the song’s arrival on Instagram, the R.E.M. founder was one of many fans to comment their praise. “i love you so much,” Grande wrote.
“it’s (and you’re) perfect ♡,” she added.
Grande and Gaga previously collaborated on 2020’s “Rain on Me,” which appeared on the latter’s Billboard 200-topping album Chromatica. The duet debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later won best pop duo/group performance at the Grammys.
While working on the song, the two artists forged a deep friendship. “She immediately felt like a sister to me,” the Wicked actress wrote of Gaga on social media upon the release of “Rain on Me.” “i love u @ladygaga, u stunning superwoman !”
“[Ariana] was so persistent,” Gaga told Apple Music that year. “She would try over and over again to be friends with me. And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn’t want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful. And eventually she called me on my s–t. She was like, ‘You’re hiding.’ And I was … and then this friendship blossomed.”
Gaga’s seventh studio album is expected to arrive in February, almost a full year after Grande dropped her own seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine. Led by Hot 100-topping singles “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” the LP spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
