Pusha T has gone from trashing McDonalds to promoting long-term financial independence on a new cut featuring Wyclef Jean, Lola Brooke, Flau'jae and Capella Grey, “Paper Right,” which is part of a new TIAA ad campaign.
The song is exactly what you'd expect from a jingle for a financial giant focused on providing retirement services. “Financial freedom is so rewarding,” Burke says in her verse, “Generational wealth is what you show the kids.”
Pusha T does essentially the same thing (“I'd rather create a legacy for my son, that's important to him”), not that that precludes him from slipping in a quick cock rap, albeit one with a positive message: ” The old ladies warned us, so you don't have to mourn us/The lords of the street said, 'Come with us'/You could turn a brick into a Beamer, here's some pointers/Today, I ignore them.”
To promote the song, which was released today, Pusha, Burke, Wyclef and Gray also performed it on The Tonight Show. “Paper Right” ties into TIAA's efforts to promote retirement savings for black workers, and a portion of the song's proceeds will go to “First Generation Investors,” a nonprofit that teaches college students how to invest.
Pusha, of course, has never been one to run a small lucrative corporate sponsorship. Early in his career, he famously helped write the McDonald's song “I'm Lovin' It,” but claimed he was only paid once. A few decades later, he's back in the fast food commercial game on behalf of Arby's, even throwing in a few McDonald's diss pieces.
As for his non-commercial music, Pusha released his latest album, the Grammy-nominated It's almost dryin 2022. His production was relatively low last year, although he did provide a song for Cocaine bear soundtrack (obviously) and teamed up with Phoenix for a remix of their song, “All Eyes on Me.”
