Rarely does a conspiracy theory break into the mainstream like a particular rumor Avril Lavigne he's got.
In a new episode of She called her dad posted Wednesday (May 15), the “Sk8er Boi” singer addressed the long-running Internet theory that claims the Canadian pop-punk superstar died in the early 2000s after her debut album. Let fall was released, but due to her meteoric success, music industry executives replaced her with a doppelganger named Melissa. “I mean, it's just funny to me. Like, on one end, everyone's like, “You look exactly the same. You haven't aged a day.' But then other people say there's a conspiracy theory that it's not me,” Lavigne said on the podcast in response. “Honestly, it's not that bad. It could be worse, right? I feel like I have a good one. I don't think it's negative or something creepy. They were good.”
Pushing the issue further, host Alex Cooper asked once and for all if the singer's name is, in fact, Avril Lavigne. “Obviously, it's me. It's so dumb,” he replied with a laugh, before telling Cooper, “I knew you half believed it.”
While Cooper wouldn't confirm that she believes the rumor, the 29-year-old podcast host admitted that Lavigne does in fact look her usual self. “I stare at you and picture you with your brown hair. And I say, “Oh my God.” You look literally the same as when you were younger,” the host noted.
Getting off the subject of Melissa, Lavigne also opened up about her love life on the podcast, declaring that she's “great” when she's in a relationship, adding, “I would date me. I cook. I'm a very big cook, very interesting, like the house and decorating, and I have a lot of fun with it.”
“Quick around the edges,” she added of her ideal partner, noting that she'd like someone “who's like me […] he likes to have a good time, but he's solid. I need someone who is stable that I can rely on.''
Referring to negative relationship experiences in the past, Lavigne added that she is now focused on finding someone who is “trustworthy, because if you don't have that, you're just never going to feel grounded in the relationship, and you.” it will rotate.”
