BADBADNOTGOOD have joined forces with Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine to release new single, “MiNt cHoCoLaTe” and an accompanying music video. The track marks the first release from RCA Records and 88rising's new 1999 project WRITE THE FUTURE, described in a press release as a musical collective and multimedia experience.
The collaboration marks the first time the Toronto jazz collective has teamed up with the Buffalo-based MCs — which may come as a surprise given how seamlessly the acts' styles blend. Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine deliver their deft lyricism with a laid-back flow over a catchy downtempo beat featuring an easy bassline, tangled percussion and a soulful lead flute.
The single's music video sees the track dubbed at an elementary school talent show in suburban California by a group of suit-and-tie-wearing youngsters known as “Ryan and the Destroyers.” Fade-in of the tirelessly practicing band paints a portrait of dedication and dream.
