The Beatles' “Now and Then” was nominated for record of the year, giving the group a 60-year record of nominations in the category. They were first nominated for the world-famous 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' at the 1965 ceremony. (John Lennon, who died in 1980, and George Harrison, who died in 2001, are not considered candidates for this record. While most of the track is billed as newly recorded, parts of the work from decades ago (the Lennon and Harrison's contributions to the recording) do not meet the definition of a new recording and are therefore not Grammy Eligible.)
Roan and Carpenter are both nominated in each of the Big Four categories – album, record and song of the year as well as best new artist. This is just the third time in Grammy history that two artists have achieved this feat in the same year. Billie Eilish and Lizzo did it five years ago. Diving deeper into the Big Four categories, Beyoncé earned a record ninth nomination of the year in that category with “Texas Hold'Em,” which extends her record for the most nods in the category's history. (Two years ago she surpassed former record holder Frank Sinatra.) Bey has never won in this category. Fun fact: “Texas Hold 'Em” isn't the first poker-themed hit to set a record of the year. Kenny Rogers' “The Gambler” was nominated for awards in 1980.
