For years we've been told that eating foods like bologna, hot dogs, and other highly processed foods is horrible for your health. Now, we have more of an incentive to avoid the delicious charcuterie since Boar's Head is recalling many of its products from your neighborhood markets and bodegas.
According to Detroit Free Press, the Boar's Head has announced it has recalled more than seven million pounds worth of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products over fears of possible listeria contamination. The news comes just days after they initially recalled 270,000 pounds of meat for the exact same reason for Strassburger Brand Liverwurst products made in Virginia on the same line during the same day.

A liver sample collected by the Maryland Department of Health “tested positive for the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes,” according to the FSIS alert. Meat intended for deli cutting and some packaged meat and poultry products sold at retail outlets are also being recalled.
The products have on-sale dates ranging from July 29, 2024 to October 17, 2024 and were distributed to retail locations across the country, with some exported to the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama. Products shipped to retailers have the installation number “EST. 12612” or “P-12612” within the USDA inspection mark on product labels.
According to a July 30 message from the Boar's Head website to customers, and out of an abundance of caution, the company has voluntarily extended the recall to all items produced at its Jarrett Virginia facility. Boar's chief also said they have “suspended readiness work” at the facility until further notice.
We hope consumers take note of the recall and check Boar's Head products before consuming them and ending up with a fever or a bad case of diarrhea. If you happen to own one of the recalled products, it is recommended that you thoroughly clean your refrigerators to prevent cross-contamination with your other products on your shelves.
Yes, it is so true.
With that said, be safe eating this “harmless” sandwich, yes. You may end up paying for it one way or another.
