Welcome back to Origins, our recurring series that gives artists a space to discuss everything that went into their latest release. Today, BoyWithUke gives us the lowdown on his new single, “Ghost.”
Boy with Uke has announced his new album, Exhaustionwhich will arrive on November 8 via AWAL Recordings, and the mask has officially come off. For the artist born Charley Yang, the full-length project is a chance to introduce listeners to his most authentic self.
Exhaustion serves as a farewell to the initial masked character who was a big part of Yang’s rise to fame through TikTok and social media. Now that he’s ready to begin his next chapter, the artist has confirmed that the album will be the final project under the BoyWithUke name.
The album announcement is accompanied by a new single, “Ghost,” a blend of R&B and alternative rock that recalls genre favorites like 21 Pilots or his own collaborator blackbear. “I had a lot of fun creating the song, and even after having to listen to it thousands of times, I still haven’t gotten tired of it,” he tells Consequence.
As you count down to the full-length LP's release in November, listen to “Ghost” below and read on for BoyWithUke's analysis of the song's key inspirations.
