Cardi B has hit back at critics who criticize her when it comes to identifying herself as a light-skinned woman. The Grammy-winning rapper started a heated debate with her fans on X earlier this week about the label “light skin” being used on people who aren't black, as she pointed out that Dominicans have all different shades of people.
“Dominicans are so diverse in terms of skin color Dark, brown, tan, fair, white,” she wrote on Wednesday (September 4) in a series of tweets recorded by Complex. “So what should I say when I describe my skin… I'm Dominican skin?”
Cardi clapped back at another user: “What you say is automatically invalid. The fact that you use white… WHITE IS A COLOR AND A RACE.. DOMINICAN IS A NATION WITH PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT COLORS AND SHADES.. NOT A RACE. .”
She then took out her dictionary and looked up the definition of “light skin” and posted it in a since-deleted tweet. “The term fair skin is an adjective to describe complexion… it's not exclusive to one race,” Cardi continued. “I guess Jamaicans, Haitians, and West Indians can't say they have brown skin, light skin, or dark skin because just like Dominicans they also have an ethnicity..now move JAWS.”
Cardi B's skin has been the talk of the town in recent weeks as she faced bleaching claims, which she quickly shut down on X. She explained that her pregnancy is making her look paler than usual.
“Bleaching during pregnancy?” Cardi asked. “Why do you have to be so dumb? Actually NO! I'm pregnant, I'm slightly anemic, this baby is sucking all the energy out of my body to the point where I'm pale, eyes clogged, green veins ASF, can't tan under the sun because I get hot too fast and dizzy… . PLEASE STOP THINKING THROUGH YOUR HOLE!”
Cardi is currently in the studio working on her highly anticipated sophomore album. He continued to tease the LP and even recently joked about it, laughingly comparing the studio to “Atlantic Records Correctional Facilities.”
More than six years have passed since then Invasion of privacyrelease April 2018. The LP debuted atop the Billboard 200 and every song on the project is at least certified platinum.
