Carín León's new album will be released on May 30, and it won't be normal, the Mexican star exclusively says Advertising sign.
Boca Chueca Vol. 1 leaves at 8 p.m. ET on May 30 and features 19 songs, including bilingual collaborations with country stars Kane Brown and Leon Bridges as well as Latin icons such as Ranchera star Pepe Aguilar and Mexican rockers Panteón Rococo. But the real change, León says, begins with the album's cover, a surreal painting showing León's face in close-up, with a sinister hand holding his mouth open in a twisted grimace that's a direct reference to the album's title . “Boca Chueca” translates to “Crooked Mouth”. And that title in turn represents the content of the album, says León.
“What we wanted to emphasize on the cover was […] all these problems you face as an artist who is always exposed,” Leon said in a voice memo sent Billboard. “All those fears they carry from before. All of this contributes to the music and art we all make as artists. Making this album was like a little hug and coming to terms with a lot of things that people think are bad, but they're also part of you. The cover has this dark look which in a way has a lot to do with us and also speaks to the reinvention on this album. It has bolder words, more street vocabulary. Boca Chueca has a lot to do with that less gentle side of Oscar Armando,” says Leon, referring to his namesake, Oscar Armando Díaz de Leon.
Its cover Boca Chueca designed by Alan Ortega, a member of León's band who plays the pedal guitar, but is also a painter. In fact, he did the also surreal León album cover Colmillo de Lechewhere he is depicted with a lion's head.
Boca Chueca Vol. 1 it's the sequel in the studio Colmillowhich reached No. 8 last year Advertising sign'Chart of Top Latin Albums. Since its release, León has gained traction as one of the top Mexican local music stars on the market, touring arenas and performing at festivals such as Stagecoach.
His new tour, also called Boca Chueca, kicks off July 22 and includes stops at Madison Square Garden and, on a departure for a Mexican show, at the Wizink Center in Madrid.
As for Vol. 2 of Boca Chueca (the album), no word yet on when it will be released, but the inference is that it won't be long. Here is his full tracklist Boca Chueca, Vol. 1.
