Celine Dion 'no longer has muscle control', according to her sister Claudette Dion.
Claudette, 75, shared a health update on her sister, who is currently battling a rare neurological disorder called Stiff-Person Syndrome.
“She works hard, but she has no muscle control. What breaks my heart is that she has always been disciplined,” Claudette told Canadian outlet 7 Jours. “She always worked hard. Our mother always told her, 'You're going to do well, you're going to do it right.'
He continued, “It's true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to get back on stage. In what capacity? I don't know.”
Stiff-Person Syndrome is a progressive and incurable condition that severely affects mobility.
“Vocal chords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. That's what gets me,” Claudette explained. “Because it's (a) 1 in a million cases, scientists haven't done as much research because it hasn't affected as many people.”
Claudette, also a singer, noted that her brother, 55, has received an outpouring of support since announcing her diagnosis in December 2022.
“Some people have lost hope because it's a disease that's not well known. If you knew the number of calls the Foundation (Maman Dion Foundation) is getting about Celine!” he said. “People tell us they love her and pray for her. She gets so many messages, gifts and blessed crossroads.”
The My Heart Will Go On singer has been forced to cancel her world tour as a result of her diagnosis.
She made her first public appearance in three and a half years when she attended a hockey game in Las Vegas in November.
