Chicano Batman reveals five things you didn't know about the song “Fly” and the creativity behind its music video.
Chicano Batman:
Hey, this is Chicano Batman, and these are five things you might not know about our song “Fly.”
One thing about “Fly” that you don't know is that it was actually meant to be very slow, much slower than it is. In the studio we ended up doing it much faster. Our producer and also Eduardo said, “Oh, we should speed it up.” And that's what it is now, but we were talking to them about maybe putting out a version that's slower because it's actually really cool.
No. 2: The dove in the music video is not CGI. This guy is a bird whisperer. They are the birds of his family, they run through his Salvadoran blood and he has a vocation for animals.
Another thing you might not know about the “Fly” music video: it was directed by these Argentinian sisters called the Giraffe Sisters. And they came to us with this amazing mood board that basically had the cover of Prince's second album and they were like, “Let's make this album cover look like a music video.” And it was just paying homage to artists like Funkadelic, Prince, Rick James. Yeah, we had a lot of fun with it, you know, very tongue-in-cheek and silly, and it was a lot of fun to be on set.
And then when we were in the studio doing… after we recorded everything and there was, you know, a bang and it was huge coming out of the speakers after we recorded it. I heard big vocals in the background, kind of like, you know, '80s Funkadelic, you know, funk and that's when I heard those big vocals in the background. And let's thank Maya, who sang in it, and her team, they killed it.
The bass has reverb. Check out any other Chicano Batman songs. No other song has reverb on the bass except “Fly” because why not? No rules.
