Coldplay’s long-running “Music of the Spheres Tour” continues to break records. After the band’s multicontinental tour surpassed Elton John’s to become the highest-grossing rock tour in music history, it is now the first rock tour (and the second tour in history, obviously behind Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour”) to gross more than $1 billion.
Billboard confirmed The new award was obtained after analysing the July data from Boxscore, which calculates the highest-grossing tours of each month. According to the data, Coldplay grossed $72.2 million and sold 575,000 tickets across 11 shows in July, marking the fourth time Coldplay has topped the Boxscore charts and allowing the band to surpass the $1 billion mark in earnings.
Since kicking off in 2022, Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” world tour has not only surpassed the $1 billion grossing threshold, but has sold nearly 9.3 million tickets as of August 25. With 15 tour dates remaining this year and a typical average of 50,000 tickets sold per night, Billboard Coldplay's tour is expected to sell more than 10 million tickets.
They would become the first group to achieve such an accolade, and the first act of any kind, if not for Taylor Swift. Her ongoing “The Eras Tour” has not yet reported exact numbers, but Billboard It is estimated that it is approaching the $2 billion mark, and will inevitably reach the 10 million admissions mark as well.
Coldplay have four shows left on the European leg of their “Music of the Spheres Tour,” which kicks off tonight in Dublin. They’ll then head to Australia and New Zealand for the final leg of the tour in October. You can help Coldplay feel like maybe, just maybe, they’ll have a chance to beat Taylor Swift to become the highest-grossing tour of all time by buying tickets. here.
Meanwhile, a new era is beginning for Coldplay: they have a new album, Music of the moonwhich is due out October 4. Maybe the tour they embark on next to promote that album will be even more lucrative, or Taylor Swift will somehow manage to string together another massive tour to retain the #1 spot (given her track record, we wouldn't be surprised).
