Crobot has announced a new album, Obsidian, arriving on September 13. The Pennsylvania hard rockers also delivered the lead single “Come Down.”
The song was co-written and conceived by drummer Dan Ryan and begins with a barrage of percussion and a soaring vocal intro. The resulting combination of metallic riffs, dark atmospheres and world-class pipes from Brandon Yeagley harkens back to Soundgarden/Alice in Chains, setting the table for Crobot's most “introspective” album to date.
“As we began demoing the songs,” guitarist Chris Bishop explained in the press release, “the music was pushed more and more into a heavier, darker, more metallic direction. 'Come Down' is one of the heaviest songs we've ever done, it's much more in the Alice in Chains world. “Dan, our drummer, comes from that world and we don’t try to repress that, so the new music is a lot heavier than our previous albums.”
Obsidian was produced by Crobot and recorded at The Machine Shop Studios in Austin, Texas. The 12-song LP was engineered, mixed and mastered by Alberto De Icaza and will see the band “dive into the deep, murky waters of the human condition, intertwining ancient myths with personal demons.”
“Each song descends into the darkest reaches of the psyche,” Bishop said, “with a relentless pace of heavy, throbbing rhythms and gut-wrenching guitar solos, and offers a clear reflection of internal struggles.”
Yeagley added: “Obsidian It's almost a renaissance of our career. We were able to take a different approach when writing and recording this album, so the experience was very rewarding and different from previous projects. Conflict and reflection make you a better person, even in those darkest moments, but I know I became a better person because of it. I think that's what this whole album symbolizes for us. “It has been a real breath of fresh air.”
Pre-order details will be released soon and Crobot also plans to go on an “extensive tour” in support of Obsidianwhose dates will be announced shortly.
