Darkthrone have released new song “Black Dawn Affiliation,” the lead single from the Norwegian black metal veterans’ newly announced album. calls us allAvailable April 26.
The duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto commented on the new song, with Fenriz stating: “Nocturno Culto sculpted 'Black Dawn Affiliation' and as much as I'm writhing in pain trying to describe riffs I didn't make, we're certainly rocking hard and dark around a dungeon of slow riffs from the 1986 Kreator era (think 'Awakening of the Gods' or 'Take Their Lives' from hate flag 12″).”
Nocturno Culto added: “It's not easy to describe the music you make, but I'm sure I'll try… it's heavy! Everything went as expected for this track. Some things are simply forged in the studio, like Fenriz's excellent vocals at the end of the song; and the chorus she wanted. Instead of just taking shortcuts, Fenriz and I recorded three vocal tracks each, and Silje mixed them brilliantly on Chaka Khan. There are a lot of things that can be said about riffs, but I make songs by combining a very methodical approach and happy accidents. And somewhere in the back of my head, there's most likely something that affects a lot of my decisions about little details that shape the riffs.”
“Black Dawn Affiliation” will be the only song revealed before the release of calls us allwhich is Darkthrone's twentieth studio album overall.
