Deorro, the renowned DJ and producer behind the global dance hit “Five More Hours,” has been nominated for his first Latin Grammy Award.
The Mexican-American producer received a nomination in the Best Latin Electronic Performance category for “BAMBOLE,” a collaboration he released on Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records last summer alongside crossover dance artist Vikina. The vibrant song combines her sultry vocals with Deorro’s signature synths and four-on-four beats.
This year is the first to include this new category, which according to the Latin Recording Academy “recognizes the evolution of Latin electronic music.”
“That's something very important for us,” Deorro said. GRAMMY.com on the new category. “It’s great that this is happening, because it shows that what we are doing is working, we are knocking down doors and creating more opportunities for artists like us in the future.”
Joining Deorro are Brazilian dance music superstar Alok, who received a pair of nominations for his songs “Pedju Kunumigwe” and “Drum Machine”; Dutch EDM icon Tiësto, who was nominated for his remix of Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”; and Ale Acosta and Valeria Castro for their collaboration “La Ceniza.”
It's a big moment for Deorro, who revealed he would be focusing more on Latin dance music in 2020. The chart-topping producer then released his first crossover album, Goldwhich includes collaborations with Elvis Crespo, Brray and Los Tucanes De Tijuana, in 2022 before opening on Bad Bunny's “World's Hottest Tour” album.
Earlier this year, Deorro performed a remix of “Te va a doler” alongside Mexican singer-songwriter Thalía, known as the “Queen of Latin Pop,” at the 2024 Latin American Music Awards. He also signed to Double P Records, the label of hip-hop and reggaeton superstar Peso Pluma, before returning to the Mr. 305 label to release a cover of the late Mexican-American artist Selina Quintanilla’s “Como la flor” alongside Natti Natasha and Play-N-Skillz.
Celebrating on social media, Deorro called his first Latin Grammy nomination a “dream come true.”
