Doja Cat would like to clear up a few assumptions about her relationship with her fans.
The “Agora Hills” rapper sat down with Ebro for an intimate interview with Apple Music, released Thursday (December 14), that delves into allegations that he's snubbing her devoted fans.
“One thing I want to make clear is: You will never see a direct quote of me saying I hate my fans. Not once. But it is a very big wrong thing. Everyone says she hates her fans. I never said this, but I like to play with it as a meme,” he explained. “I know people who get it, get it. And I'm fine with that. I don't have to explain my sense of humor and explain comedy to anyone. If people don't see the joke, then they just don't see the joke, and it's not my responsibility to make them see it.”
Fan-hating Doja became the subject of debate in July when she criticized her fans on Threads for using her government name as a name and for using “Kittenz”, her fan name, saying: “If you call yourself “Kitten” or — “Kittenz” means you should get off your phone and get a job and help your parents at home.” Meta confirmed Advertising sign that it lost 237,758 the weekend of its posting.
During the interview, Doja also addressed claims about her videos containing satanic imagery, particularly her video for “Paint the Town Red”. Referring to her dancing over the video's green goblin, the Grammy winner explained: “It was a painting that I painted. My painting is not a weapon. It's not offensive. It's just a green goblin monster. … That was a really big piece for me. It was one of my proudest moments ever, and people were writing it off as satanism, and it's literally a little green guy with horns and I'm standing on his head! Where is the harm?'
After all, Doja knows that pleasing fans all the time is an impossible task, and she relishes the feeling. “I'm not going to make everybody happy, and that's just it,” he said. “I'm just not, and I know I'm not, so that's been very liberating.”
