Dolly Parton, always a symbol of grace and tact, thinks everyone should move on from Elle King's drunken tribute performance at the Grand Ole Opry last month.
During a tribute show celebrating Dolly Parton's 78th birthday, Elle King slurred during a performance of “Marry Me”, singing “I don't know the words to these things in this fucking town/Don't tell Dolly 'cause it's her “. birthday” and then telling the audience “I’m not even going to lie…you all bought tickets to this shit, you’re not getting your money back.”
speaking to ExtraParton addressed the incident and offered some support. “Elle is a really great artist,” Parton said, “she's a great girl. And she's been going through a lot of hard things lately. And she just drank too much. So let's forgive that, let's forget about it and move on because she felt worse than anyone else.” Parton had not previously acknowledged the incident, although the Grand Ole Opry and Elle King offered apologies.
