A drugged man at Florida's Sol Fest attacked a police officer and “bit off a chunk” of his head. FOX 13 News reports.
The electronic dance music festival took place from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 5 at Vortex Spring, Ponce de León venue. Deputy Mark Harris of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office had been patrolling the grounds the second night of Sol Fest when he says he was suddenly approached by a festival-goer under the influence of drugs.
It was a mixture of PCP, LSD, ketamine and mushrooms that allegedly sent James Michael Anderson, a Vortex Springs volunteer, into a violent frenzy, during which he bit the officer's head. Anderson also tried to grab his gun, Harris said.
During the fight, Harris managed to draw his Taser, but even the electrical charge seemed to have little effect on the drug-fueled Anderson, who continued to fight. Backup then arrived and several officers converged on the scene, tackling Anderson to the ground and restraining him.
Both Anderson and Harris were reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital. Harris, who was missing a piece of his head, was in shock but stable. Anderson, still combative, was sedated and placed under arrest.
As news of the attack spread, the Holmes County Sheriff's Office issued a statement detailing the incident. Anderson was ultimately charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
