In the current state of dance music, where artistry often leans toward the minimalist, DubVision’s debut album boldly takes a maximalist approach, inundating listeners with welcome waves of emotion and nostalgia.
Another worldOut now on STMPD RCRDS from Martin Garrix after years in the making, it stands as a vibrant testament to the Dutch dance music duo’s uplifting melodies and heartfelt lyricism, refusing to shy away from complicated emotions.
The highly collaborative project includes two collaborations with Garrix: “Empty,” which alchemizes anthemic tracks with melancholic lyrics about the search for fulfillment; and “Wherever You Are,” which continues the emotional journey by mixing introspective lyrics with euphoric sounds that feel like a nod to the historic heights of progressive house.
The album’s collaboration with Afrojack, “Underwater,” reflects the passionate complexity found on “Empty.” With lyrics centered on the need to let go of toxic relationships, the song’s production creates an experience that is simultaneously uplifting and nostalgic.
As Another world As the album progresses, each track adds a new layer to the emotional landscape. Its closing track, “Home,” is a fitting conclusion. With shimmering strings, joyous piano chords, and warm, reassuring lyrics, it captures the essence of finding one’s place after a long, tumultuous journey. Much like the album itself, the track, which features a powerful vocal performance from STMPD favorite Shaun Farrugia, reflects DubVision’s personal and artistic growth over years of successes made step by step.
