Ellen DeGeneres Announces Her Latest Stand-Up Special

Six years later launching her latest Netflix special Relevantthe streaming service announced Monday that Ellen DeGeneres is returning with an all-new comedy special later this year.

“To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I will talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that beautiful in real life,” DeGeneres said in a press release.

In recent months, DeGeneres has hinted that she's working on new material and even shared with audiences at her shows that she's preparing for this upcoming routine that will eventually air on Netflix. DeGeneres has been doing smaller shows in Los Angeles, where she talked about her former talk show, her time away from the limelight and how she says she's been “kicked out of show business” twice — once when she went on national television in The self-titled 1990s comedy and for a second time in 2020 “for mischief”.

“The 'be kind' girl was not kind,” DeGeneres told an audience in April. “I became this one-dimensional character who gave things away and danced steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance on the steps? Would an evil person dance on the steps? If I had ended my show by saying, 'Go fuck yourself,' people would have been pleasantly surprised.”

According to the press release, the DeGeneres special will be produced by Fulwell73 productions and Ben Winston, who served as its executive producer The Late Late Show with James Corden and is also an executive producer for Hulu's The Kardashians. Robbie Praw, VP of Stand-Up and Comedy Formats at Netflix, also commented in a statement, saying, “There's no one like Ellen.”

“He is a true legend and a pioneer in so many ways. We look forward to bringing fans another of her hilarious comedies later this year,” said Praw.

Beginning in June, the comedian will embark on a multi-city tour, making stops in San Diego, Washington state, Oregon and the Bay Area. During a show in Los Angeles in April, DeGeneres said she will be taping her tribute in Chicago this fall.
