The performance is also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the New Monkey Studio in Van Nuys, California, which Smith had outfitted with all manner of vintage recording equipment and instruments. According to a press release, the studio remains “the closest thing we have today to a working Elliott Smith museum.” “This evening is not only a celebration of Elliott’s music, but also a critical step toward preserving a sonic sanctuary that has become a historic landmark in the music community,” says studio director Robert Cappadona.
Tickets for the “All My Rowdy Friends” concert are now on sale through TicketmasterAll profits will go towards the maintenance and preservation of New Monkey Studio. Fans can also get tickets to the show through StubHub.
The event will also feature a pop-up shop by Elliott Smith of independent record store Fingerprints, as well as film visuals that will be projected throughout the evening. The concert’s title, “All My Rowdy Friends,” comes from the Hank Williams Jr. song of the same name that Smith notably covered. See the “All My Rowdy Friends” concert poster below.
