Fans rushed to streaming services after the record's surprise release was announced only to be disappointed when nothing was actually there
Eminem's next album may already be here, but it sure didn't arrive today. On Monday morning, the rapper surprised everyone by announcing a self-titled album Infinite 2 with an elaborate teaser trailer. Fans rushed to streaming services after the 40-second video – which could benefit from a warning for those with photosensitive epilepsy – was released, only to be disappointed when there was nothing. They should have rushed through their calendar first.
“The long-awaited next studio album returns to where it all began,” a narrator announces in the clip, referring to Eminem's 1996 debut studio album. “Infinite, but now it's even more infinite. Out today!” The trailer, interestingly, features “Crack a Bottle,” which actually appeared on the rapper's comeback album Relapse in 2009.
The teaser captures the pure visual chaos of the early internet, but keeps it modern with screenshots from dozens of Instagram comments. “Can't wait for the PSA when you finally decide to announce a new album,” read one, while another said: “Almost had a heart attack. I thought this was a new album announcement.”
Eminem last released an album in January 2020. Music To Be Murdered By featured 20 songs and featured collaborations with Anderson .Paak, Don Toliver, Juice WRLD, Ed Sheeran and more. The only real news of any upcoming releases from the rapper came via Dr. Dre, who recently said Jimmy Kimmel: “Eminem is working on his own album, which will be released this year. I actually talked to him and he said it was okay for me to make this announcement here on this show. So there's an album coming out, I've got songs on it and it's fire.”
No release date has been set for the project, but it's definitely not April Fools.
