Loreen solidified herself in Eurovision history by becoming the first woman to win two Eurovision song contests. Having sold out the 3Olympia Theater in a matter of minutes, Loreen has now added a show at Belfast's iconic Ulster Hall on Friday 28 March.
Loreen came onto the public's radar in 2004 when she competed on Swedish Idol. Returning to the public scene in 2011, Loreen released her song “Your Heart is Refusing Me”, which peaked at number 9 on the Swedish Singles Chart. The turning point of Loreen's career came with the critically acclaimed platinum album; “Euphoria.” The Eurodance sensation scored 372 points in 40 of the 42 voting countries.
“Euphoria” peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. The song also remained in the top 20 of the UK charts in the weeks following Eurovision. From 2014 to 2022, Loreen toured several times and, in 2017, she released her first EP, “Nude.” Loreen competed for the fourth time at Melodifestivalen with her song “Tattoo”. She made it to the finals and the song was released on all digital platforms. It debuted at number one in Sweden and gave Loreen her second Swedish number one. “Tattoo” won Sweden its seventh Eurovision with a whopping 583 points.
Loreen has recently realized that she not only makes music but also “create worlds” that truly transport their listeners. “That's why I love Eurovision so much: because it allows me to create a whole world when I'm on stage.” Loreen says. As the only woman to win the iconic song contest twice, with Euphoria in 2012 and Tattooin in 2023, Loreen is well aware of the Eurovision platform as “A beautiful and loving space where people gather around sounds and images.” Now, each new song he releases is conceived as an experience to be savored on several levels. “As a listener, you have all the elements there: you can see it, hear it, feel it, smell it.” she says. “My art is not about one thing: it's the whole, it's the layers, it's the message.”
There's no doubt this message is traveling far and wide: Loreen has over 2 billion streams to her name worldwide. Ella's heady electropop gem Tattoo topped the charts in 10 countries, including her native Sweden, and peaked at number two in the UK. The music video for Is It Love?, her equally intoxicating follow-up single, surpassed one million views in less than two weeks when it premiered in October, and will soon reach one million followers on TikTok. But of course, statistics alone only tell half the story. Loreen's fans are so passionate that they make supercuts of her saying “darling” – a term of endearment she adopted at Eurovision in Liverpool – and flood her posts with the LGBTQ+ community's biggest compliment: “Mother!” “At first, when I saw that, I thought, 'I'm not that old!'” Loreen says laughing. “But then I realized that every time Tattoo performed, I had so much love in my body for everyone together that there was a very motherly energy there.”
