Former Mr. Bungle member Theo Lengyel has been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, a resident of Capitola, California.
Lengyel was detained by the Capitola Police Department on Tuesday (Jan. 2) after previously being named a “person of interest” in the investigation.
The victim's relatives reported her missing on December 12 after a period of contact of one week. An investigation was launched into the woman's disappearance and her vehicle was found in front of Lengyel's house.
According to investigators, Lengyel did not cooperate with police and was later named a suspect when “it became clear that foul play was involved,” according to a report. Capitola Police Department news release. Lengyel was also reported to have traveled from El Cerrito, California, to Portland, Oregon, in the days surrounding Herrmann's disappearance.
The press release states that investigators later discovered human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, California. The remains are currently awaiting DNA processing, and Lengyel is currently in the Santa Cruz County Jail, according to the Capitola Police Department. Facebook page.
Lengyel was a member of Mr. Bungle from 1985 to 1996, playing on their early 1986 demo. The Furious Wrath of the Easter Bunnyas well as their studio albums. Mr. Bungle (1991) and Flying Disco (1995), among other releases. The multi-instrumentalist primarily played saxophone for the band, in addition to clarinet and keyboards.
He would leave the group in 1996 due to creative differences and is not part of the current reunion of classic members of Mr. Bungle, Mike Patton, Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn alongside Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo.
