Phineas defends his little sister after a commenter called Billie Eilish's verse on Charli XCX Remix “Guess” “predatory”.
The removal was done in the comments section of a Tik Tok was posted on Friday (August 2), in which one user wrote that the 22-year-old singer's lyrics on Brat The luxury pieces were “highly predatory”, accusing her of “queerbaiting” and “reducing girls to mere objects, all in an attempt to convince the masses that they actually like them.” The remark appears to be in response to the part of “Guess” where Eilish sings: “Charli likes boys, but she knows I'd hit it off/ Charli, call me if you're with him.”
The producer, however, was having none of it. “What to get you little clown,” he wrote. “I have to watch the entire internet call out my sister for queer-baiting for an entire year, when in reality, you all forced her to label and out herself.”
It's unclear if the user who posted the review was coming from a genuine place or just trying to stir the pot, but Finneas' point still stands. Eilish has been open about how difficult it was for her to talk about her sexuality on her own terms while growing up in the public eye, especially as she faced backlash for allegedly queerbaiting — or disingenuously harassing LGBTQ audiences for commercial gain — since 2019's “Wish U Were Gay.”
The two-time Oscar winner faced similar charges in 2021 for dancing sensually with women in her “Lost Cause” music video. At the time, Eilish did not publicly identify as part of the LGBTQ community. in November 2023, however, he revealed to Variety that she is “physically attracted” to women, soon after she accused the agency of “outing” her on a subsequent red carpet.
“I like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares,” she added on Instagram Stories at the time.
Eilish has since become more comfortable talking — and singing — about her sexuality. Prior to “Guess,” she reflected on longing for a lady love on her Billboard Hot 100 hit “Lunch” and her April Rolling rock The cover, he said, “I've been in love with girls all my life, but I didn't understand it – until, last year, I realized that I wanted my face in the bay.”
“Who cares; The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn't get to say anything or control any of it,” she continued in the article. “No one should be pressured to be one thing or another, and I think there are a lot of labels that want to be everywhere. Man, I've met people who don't know their sexuality or feel comfortable with it until they're in their forties, fifties, sixties. It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it's really unfair, the way the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”
