Roc-A-Fella alum and former State Property member Oschino Vasquez appeared on a podcast for the African Cultural Art Forum in Philadelphia recently and weighed in on Kendrick vs. Drake. The Philly rapper – known for his gritty realism in his music – surprised the audience when he deemed Kendrick Lamar “overrated”.
When asked about the controversy, Oschino brought up Drake, saying, “First of all, Drake had a whole country behind him. Drake had the most hits. Girls like Drake. Drake comes across as a good guy,” before predicting that Rick Ross will lose “a lot of fans” by dating the Canadian rapper.
But when asked about Kendrick, the estate member had to think about his answer before saying: “Kendrick can also rap, but I think he's overrated,” before shaking his head and adding: “I know people will talk 'st.” He further explained his attitude, telling the host, “All his songs are not hot to me. When Drake sings, I hate it. When Drake sings, I cut it. I'm like, 'Drake, don't do that .” When Kendrick Lamar sings some of his songs, he tries to go really deep.”
He cracks more, giving Kendrick credit for his lyricism, but that's about it. “People like something they don't understand a little bit,” he says. “You got to say some crazy shit, but Kendrick Lamar got a lot of songs that I don't like. Lyrics; Hot. But some of the songs aren't for me.”
Later in the interview, he singles out himself as a Drake fan, saying, “Drake is the best. As for rappin? I think Drake is better than all of them because he constantly puts some st out. It's hot, it's lyrical, it's everything.”
Oschino has made a name for himself online as a podcaster and vlogger. A few weeks ago, Oschino posted a clip on his YouTube saying he thought Drake won the battle after hearing all the songs.
